Like most tourists would normally do everytime they visit Palawan, going through the famous Underground River was defiinitely included in our itinerary. The entrance to the Subterranean River is a short hike from the town of Sabang. One can also reach it by boat, like what we did. Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is one of the 28 finalists for the "New Seven Wonders of Nature" competition and is currently included in UNESCO's List of Natural World Heritage Sites. It is known for its lush old grown tropical forest, interesting wildlife, pristine white sand beaches and unspoiled natural beauty. It features a spectacular limestone formation that contains an Underground River that is reputed to be the longest navigable underground river in the World. It is one of the few such rivers which the public can easily experience and appreciate.
This shot was taken at the entrance to the underground river. It took me a few minutes to setup my camera and tripod since there was no good place to take a clear shot without getting wet and without including other tourists in the frame. I wanted to capture the serene and pristine ambience which was enhanced by the lush surrounding vegetation, and I hope or rather guess that it was worth the wait.
I hope you like this one! Comments and suggestions are welcome!
Boys on Beach
From a recent family portrait shoot on the beach. Taken at Mandalay Beach, Oxnard, CA.
Strobist info: SB-28 and Sunpak 333, both firing into a V-card made from foam insulation and supported with a heavy tripod because of the wind. SB-20 over camera's right shoulder (do cameras have shoulders?) for shadow fill. Beautiful sunset for hair light. Cheap ebay triggers, some masking tape and some luck.
sunpak digital camera tripod
Keep your camera steady and take crystal clear photos with this super-lightweight, compact tripod. Constructed from tough, light aluminum, this tripod offers many features typically found on much larger, more expensive tripods. This particular tripod can be extended to an impressive 48 inches (123cm) tall, and can stand as low as 14.6 inches (37cm). Folded, it is under 15 inches long, and it weighs a mere 1.5 pounds (680g) for easy portability. Despite its small size, this tripod can easily support 2.6 pounds (1.2kg) for use with digital SLR equipment.
In addition to its sturdy construction, this tripod also features a 3-way adjustable panhead that allows for smooth panning and tilting when shooting video, and easy adjustments during still photography. A quick-release plate -- complete with non-slip cork pad and video indexing pin -- makes it easy to remove your camera and shoot handheld with the flick of a lever.
